The country code for Serbia in international communications is 381. The area code number for Belgrade for national calls is 011. To reach Belgrade calling from abroad, the zero should be skipped, that is, the full code is 381 11. To make an international call from Serbia, first dial 99, then the country code followed by the area code and the subscriber’s telephone number.

Public phones accept telephone cards (available from tobacconists, newsagents, post offices, and petrol stations). There are two types of telephone cards, Halo cards and HaloPlus cards (for international calls).

Halo and HaloPlus cards

Halo card allows you to make local and international calls by inserting the card into the slot of all public phones. The price varies from 200 to 300 dinars (with 15 dinars gratis) depending on the number of units.

HaloPlus card allows you to make only international calls which are cheaper than using Halo card. It costs 600 dinars and it can be used at any fixed or public phone. There are three types of HaloPlus cards: HaloPlus cards for ex-YU country: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and FYR of Macedonia. HaloPlus cards for European country: Austria, Greece, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. HaloPlus cards for Australia, Canada and the United States of America.

Mobiles

Contact your mobile phone operator who will confirm whether or not your mobile is compatible with the Sebian network and also explain how you will be charged for calls received from your own country or that you make while abroad (local and international calls).

Some mobiles from other countries don't automatically connect with the Serbian networks. All you need to do is choose the option "network selection" on your mobile to manually make the connection. In order to use your mobile in Serbia, it should be compatible with GSM 900 or GSM 1800 norms.
