The famous French band Gotan Project will present their third studio album at a concert in the Belgrade Arena on 17 November this year. The group has masterfully represented an original blend of traditional Argentine tango and electronics since 1999, while their Belgrade audience has had a number of occasions over the past couple of years to see and hear the band play live.
Gotan Project was formed in Paris by Philippe Cohen Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Muller, osnovali su u Parizu Filip Koen Solal, Eduardo – a French aesthete, an Argentine guitarist and a Swiss programmer respectively. After a few experiments they found their inspiration in tango, enriching the sound with the traditional sound of Makaroff’s homeland. The sharp-looking, smartly-dressed trio hit the big time internationally with their debut album, 2001’s La Revancha del Tango. They toured all major cities in the world from New York to Tokyo as they stunned the crowds with their on-stage set – an enormous white canvas upon which silhouettes of figures dancing tango were projected.
Gotan Project’s second album was named Lunatico and came out in 2006, and was threaded with jazz. The album was named after a winning race horse owned by Carlos Gardel – the “greatest master in the history of tango”, as the band say.
This year they released a third studio album, Tango 3.0, contains a mixture of tango, jazz, dub and electronics, while it features guest appearances from Hammond organ player Dr John and singer Cristina Villalonga.
