The reigning FINA World champion Serbia took the first title of this year's season. In the gold medal game of the World League Super Final at Nis, Serbia the home team beats European champion Montenegro on penalties, 14-12 (1-1, 3-4, 2-2,4-3, 4-2). Croatia finished third, beating Australia 9-7 (4-1, 2-1, 3-3, 0-2) in the bronze medal game.

Serbia failed to clinch a late win as Gocic saw his effort bounce off the post in the dying moments, and the World Group final game had to go be decided on five-metre penalties. It was, eventually, the moment when Serbia goalkeeper Slobodan Soro took the stage. He managed to save shots from Danilovic and Zlokovic, which enabled Serbia to win the World League title and further $100,000 worth of prize money.
